Rashi Chakra

The Rashi Chakra is an imaginary belt stretching about 9° north and 9° south of the eclipse within which the planets and the Moon remain in the course of their movement.

In case of the Moon, the deviation from the ecliptic is about + 5°.

This belt is divided into 12 equal parts each of 30° and each part is called a sign. According to the western system of Astrology, the first sign, i.e., Aries starts from the point of intersection of the ecliptic and the equator.

There are 12 signs, in both the systems, namely

  1. Mesha – Aries
  2. Vrishabha – Taurus
  3. Mithuna – Gemini
  4. Kataka – Cancer
  5. Simha – Leo
  6. Kanya – Virgo
  7. Tula – Libra
  8. Vrischika – Scorpio
  9. Dhanur – Sagittarius
  10. Makara – Capricorn
  11. Kumbha – Aquarius and
  12. Meena – Pisces

Each of these Rashi has a stretch of 30 degrees in the Zodiac.
